Science on a Monday

This is Science Week. We did 2 experiments. First was the Skittles experiment.

Then we did a Walking Water Experiment. We used water, food dye and kitchen roll to do a really cool experiment.

We used 6 classes, pouring water into every 2nd one. We added food colouring to the 1st, 3rd and 5th glass. We folded a strip of kitchen towel and placed one end into the coloured water and the other into an empty glass. We saw the colour begin to move up the paper towel. Throughout the day we observed what happened. Before we went home the water had walked across the glasses! We all thought this was magic. It was in fact science at work. Capillary action caused the paper towel to pull the water up. The water kept travelling along the paper towel, across the bridge and into the next glass. Cool!

Look at the end result!!
